I wish I had graduated from the University of Washington with a Biology degree. Instead, I have degrees from the UW in Urban Planning and Law and spent 30 years practicing law including, most recently, environmental law. The past few years I have gone back to school to return to my first love, animal biology, and pursue my interest in nutrition. I’ve been at North Seattle College enjoying the small class environment for college science major’s biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, anatomy, and undergraduate research. I’m also interested in nutritional science and the challenge of sustainably feeding nine billion people along with the other animals with whom we share the planet. I’m excited to be working as a Research Scientist Assistant in the Center for Ecosystem Sentinels at the University of Washington. I’m gaining research experience with the Magellanic and Galapagos penguin projects, studying food resource competition in species conservation, and applying my past-life skills to the many tasks involved in managing a research lab.
